Pet Food for Meals on Wheels

The Alpha Phi chapter had another successful pet food drive to benefit the recipients of the Monroe County Meals on Wheels. We collected 138 pounds of dog and cat food. We were helped by ESU’s Sign Language Club, and the ESU chapters of Autism SpeaksU and the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Our Challenge to all Sigma Phi Omega Chapters – Walk to End Alzheimer’s!

This last Saturday, October 13, 2018, our chapter gathered to participate in the Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Alzheimer’s Walk! We also donated $500!

We challenge all Sigma Phi Omega Chapters to get involved and participate as well! Donate to the very worthy cause of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

Annual Sigma Phi Omega Induction and Awards Celebration

On April 16th, the Gerontology Interdisciplinary Program held its annual Sigma Phi Omega (SPO) Induction and awards Celebration, at which time  two students and 7 community partners were recognized and inducted.  Our partners are professional leaders working towards improving the quality of lives for older adults and caregivers throughout Utah and will bring a richness to our chapter and SPO.  Here is a picture from our induction including our inductees (who were able to attend) and Faculty (Dr. Kathie Supiano, Nanci McLeskey and Jackie Eaton).

Gamma Psi Chapter has another successful year!

The Gamma Psi Chapter at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte has had a busy year! Among other things, we raised over $2000 for the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Dr. Jeannine Skinner, Assistant Professor of Gerontology and Psychological Sciences; supported local assisted living communities with fall festivals, painting fun, Valentines and St. Patrick’s Day activities; volunteered at a local County Dog Show to support Senior Games; and encouraged students to consider gerontology studies at university open houses and resource fairs. We also inducted ten new members into our chapter at our annual year-end event to celebrate student achievements and selected our 11th annual Outstanding Senior in Gerontology (who, of course, must be an active member of Sigma Phi Omega)!
