The Motivation to Exercise in Age

The University of Maryland Baltimore County chapter of Sigma Phi Omega is pleased to invite you to “The Motivation to Exercise in Age” presented by Candace Brown, Assistant Professor of Gerontology with the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

It is known that maintaining physical function, through activity, is one key to successful aging. Leading an active lifestyle may delay physical and cognitive decline, and 53% of older adults are now meeting US physical activity guidelines. As aging adults are increasingly adopting exercise into their weekly routines, research is moving to understand what motivates them to maintain their fitness. Brown will discuss her research on motivation to exercise among unique populations including Black women triathletes, older Veterans, and most recently- pandemic exercisers.
