Membership Criteria ...
Student membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring or minoring in gerontology/aging studies and related fields and are in at least their second term
of enrollment. Also, to be eligible for membership in SPO:
- undergraduates must have a grade point average at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
- graduate students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Faculty, alumni, professional, and honorary memberships are also available. Please consult the SPO Bylaws for membership requirements.

Student applicants affiliated with an existing SPO Chapter must obtain their Chapter Advisor's signature, verifying their Grade Point Average (GPA) eligibility, and do not need to send transcripts. Students who are not affiliated with an existing SPO Chapter do need to send a copy of their university transcript, note the name of the university in the space provided and write “none” in the space for Chapter name.
Professional applicants please include your degree and dates awarded as well as your employer and job title.

To renew your annual membership dues, please submit the proper renewal fee via a check made payable to “Sigma Phi Omega”, then mail your renewal notice or a completed
renewal form including your member number (located on your SPO certificate) to:.
