Student membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring or minoring in gerontology/aging studies and related fields and are in at least their second term
of enrollment. Also, to be eligible for membership in SPO:
- undergraduates must have a grade point average at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
- graduate students must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Faculty, alumni, professional, and honorary memberships are also available. Please consult the SPO Bylaws for membership requirements.

Learn the many benefits of SPO membership! You are encouraged to read SPO Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation prior to application. Then contact your local university SPO Chapter President or university faculty SPO Sponsor for more information about joining SPO through affiliation with a local chapter. If there is not a local chapter near you, complete the membership application and mail it to the national office at:

To order SPO honor cords and medals ...
Use this honor cord and medal order form. Cords and medals are $15 each, plus shipping charges as noted on the order form. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery of honor cords and medals. If you need a RUSH order, there is an additional RUSH charge.
- RUSH 1 to 6 cords and/or medals adds $5.00
- RUSH 7 to 20 cords and/or medals adds $11.00
